Estes Valley Community Center Employee Spotlight
Kelly Mann
Kelly Mann, a California native, has worked at the Community Center for five years as a fitness instructor and guest services team member. She moved to Colorado after earning a degree in early childhood education from Sacramento State in 2012 and met her husband, Garrick, while working at the YMCA of the Rockies.
When asked what inspires her at work, Mann said, “I love seeing all the families come in and get their kids involved in sports and active hobbies.” She added that her role has given her a greater appreciation for the effort behind successful fitness classes. “I have a higher level of respect for the other instructors and the amount of time they put into preparing for each class,” she said.
The Community Center is a centerstone of the Mann family’s life. She appreciates that her children have the opportunity to play sports and learn about a healthy lifestyle. One of Mann’s favorite things about working at the Community Center is helping new friends be healthy in a fun way!
All of us at the Community Center are happy that Kelly is on our team!
CONGRATULATIONS Monte Michener
Member Spotlight
Member Spotlight: Monte Michener
Acclaimed multimedia artist Monte Michener has been a dedicated member of the Community Center since it opened in 2018. At age 13, he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), a life-changing moment that introduced new routines including insulin management, dietary monitoring, and regular blood glucose checks.
“Fortunately, exercise is one of the best tools for managing T1D,” Michener shared. “I use the weight training and cardio areas at the Center to stay fit, which helps me keep my blood glucose levels in check.”
In 2024, Michener faced another major challenge—a fractured femur that required surgery involving a pin and rod, followed by three months of physical therapy. “I was back at the Rec Center using a cane for another three months. Working out played a key role in my recovery—and it really helped lift my spirits,” he said.
We are proud that the Community Center has played such a meaningful role in Michener’s health and healing journey. His resilience and positive outlook continue to inspire our community.
